I've been working with inner city youth for many years, and I learned a ton from this book. Strong theoretical foundation, touching examples, and detailed explanations of suggestions... this is on the top of my reading list for teachers working with students of color!

Teaching the Teacher how to .....!

This book is a powerhouse. I would recommend it to new teachers, veteran teachers and all that fall between these two extremities. The book is also a must read for those who work on an administrative level as well. Dr. Emdin so powerfully proves that with the right systems in place, children of color, want to learn and can learn in many masterful ways. Emerson declared, "foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds" It is time to flee the status quo with reckless abandon and embrace pedagogical practices that will lead to an "educational renaissance" !
