This past August my beautiful 33 year old son died

Years ago I sent this book to a friend who had lost her precious son. This past August my beautiful 33 year old son died. This month I purchased another copy of this book. I have been studying Buddhism for 18 years, I have so many precious teachings I can turn to, precious, precious teachers and teachings that have helped and that I am so utterly grateful to, but I have to say that this book, this particular teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh is the one teaching that really started cutting through my intense grief. I know I will still experience much sadness in the days to come but for the first time there is a little less pain. These teachings have comforted my shattered and grieving heart and allowed a little bit of light to peek through the darkness. With deep gratitude and much love, Cheri.

Great book with great teachings

I read this book when my father was very ill. I jump started from the last chapter. It captured me as it was very relevant to my situation and my father's case. Then I started from the beginning. The notion of no birth, no dieing, no coming, no going is new to most of us, but essential to learn in the journey of deep consciousness. For me, it was more than a spiritual teaching. It was a journey into the awareness and deep consciouness. And in this highly materialised world, the words of this book may sound like a foreign language at first, but if you keep reading, you'll find that it later opens up a new life....a new consciousness, which we at least must be exposed, even if we dont believe, or live in the way that the book describes. For me, it was the second important step in my consciousness, like a new chapter, after Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now". I think anyone who read "Power of Now" this is a must-read-sequence.

Afraid of death? This is the book for you!

After losing both parents, and a dear friend all within a few years, and almost losing my husband to cancer right after that, I developed a deep fear of death. What really happens after we die? How do we avoid the pain and fear of death? Why does the American society avoid open conversations around death? A journey into the study of Buddhism began to answer these questions for me, but, it was Thich Nhat Hanh's "No Death, No Fear" that really turned the light onto what had been a dark subject for me. With rational logic, expressed through beautiful prose, Thay (as he is called by followers)was able to show me how death brings but a different manifestation of myself. That from something there can not become nothing, and from nothing, there cannot become something. By asking such simple questions as, "Where were you when your grandmother was born?", Hanh asks the reader to look deeply at our existence and how important our 'non-self' is in defining our life, and that eternity exists within us at every moment we care to truly be in it.

An S&M book from one of the best in the field

For anyone who is interested in either entering the aura of leathersex or who is all ready involved, Leatherman's Handbook II is a must read. Written by Larry Townsend who is well respected within the leather world and also a contributor to the male bondage magazine, Bound and Gagged, this book follows along with his style. This is an easy book to read and understand with chapters dealing with anything from bondage techniques, bondage material, s&m techniques, meeting a partner and much more. Each chapter generally has a story that is relevant to the chapter's subject matter.
All though the book is more gay oriented much that is said can be applied to any situation. The picking of a partner is very important and Townsend goes into detail on this issue. Townsend also touches upon the use of drugs as well as other issues.
I enjoyed reading the book and found that its material was well written and worthy as a strong reference manual for what it discusses.
This book is certainly worth the high rating of "10".

Really the ONLY worthwhile RPG treatment of Deities.

The Primal Order, by Peter Adkison, was the first product from gaming company Wizards of the Coast, now best-known for their collectible card game "Magic: The Gathering"; at that time, WotC was a just-starting roleplaying game company. The Primal Order was designed to eliminate two major flaws in the then-current treatment of deities in roleplaying games; either said deities were treated as all-powerful beings (leading to a great deal of difficulty if two different gods wanted different things, AND eliminating the high-heroic possibility of direct conflict between gods and mortals, cf. Conan, Greek and Norse myth, etc.), or they were basically ordinary characters with really really really high statistics (making it hard to differentiate between a god and a buff mortal).

The Primal Order changed this by introducing Primal Energy, a form of power usable ONLY by the gods and giving them certain advantages. The mechanics of The Primal Order ("TPO") are simple, direct, and efficient, the powers involved well-thought out, and other sections, dealing with godly politics, plane/dimension interactions, and even PC deities, are all well-written and interesting, with few flaws in either presentation or consistency -- a rarity in RPG publishing.

An additional plus to TPO is that it was designed as a "capsystem" -- a roleplaying supplement that works with ANY ESTABLISHED RPG SYSTEM. This means that to use TPO you do NOT have to give up your old system, or convert your old stuff to TPO's mechanics. TPO gives conversion rules in the back of the book for roughly 20 different game systems, all very simple and easily used. (earlier editions of the book contain conversions for Palladium and AD&D; later ones had those removed at the request/demand of the respective copyright holders).

Overall, a useful and well-written addition to any RPGers' library.

The ROI of "Magic"

Connellan creates a fictional situation in which five executives (previously strangers) meet for several days of discussion at Disney World under the supervision of "Mort Vandeleur" (whom none of them had previously known) to learn why 70% of Magic Kingdom guests are return visitors. Vandeleur is a former cast member of both Disneyland and Disney World who now earns his living as a consultant to other companies to improve their customer relationships. Do not ignore the importance of the phrase "cast member" and the word "guest" because both are essential to understanding two of the primary reasons for the success of all of Disney's Magic Kingdoms: the role of each Disney employee, and, how each visitor is treated by all employees. Indeed, both are essential to creating and then sustaining the "magic" of those communities. By design, the five executives are significantly different in terms of their previous business experiences, expectations upon arrival, personalities, initial reactions to Vandeleur, and (most importantly) the process of learning throughout interaction with him, each other, and various guests as well as cast members.
It would be a disservice both to Connellan and to the reader to reveal the seven "Lessons" which each of the five learns. However, I do want to note that Connellan (unlike Vandeleur) has never worked for Disney in any capacity. Also, that he assumes full responsibility for the book he has written, presumably written with the knowledge but not with the necessary approval of Disney. Also, that each of the "Gang of Five" is fictitious, as are all cast members identified by name except Michael Eisner, Dick Nunis, and Judson Green. Finally, that Connellan includes several of his own ideas about creating magic, such as Lesson 7: "Xvxryonx makxs a diffxrxncx."
As indicated in his previous books and articles, Connellan has a great deal of value to say about how to provide consistently superior customer service. What I found especially beneficial in this book is Connellan's emphasis on the importance of collaboration throughout any organization to provide such service. I am reminded of a scene near the end of the film Spartacus when the victorious Roman general (played by Olivier) and his slavemaster (played by Ustinov) make their way among the defeated gladiators looking for their leader or someone who will identify his body. Finally, one by one, the gladiators stand and each asserts "I am Spartacus!" Each cast member, in a sense, IS the Magic Kingdom. (How many of those in your own organization feel the same pride and passion?) My point is that, yes, Connellan examines superior customer service at Disney World and does so quite well but he also provides excellent insights into the total dependence of such service (there and elsewhere) on those who feel privileged (key word) to provide it. Most will find this an "easy read" so I conclude with a word of caution: The situation may be fictitious and, on occasion, developments may seem contrived but stay with the narrative to its conclusion. The lessons learned can help to guide and inform the transformation any organization into a Magic Kingdom.

Simple Truths

Inside the Magic Kingdom was a very light read on how Disney treats their customers and employees. The journey is in story format. It is a make believe adventure of adults who go to the Disney Park to learn about the reason Disney is successful. The lessons are light hearted but are logical and can be of great help. This book is not about specifics related to the Disney Company. It is simply observations of the author about why Disney is successful. It is a very quick read with not much depth. I think it is very valuable to any business owner/ customer relations representative but realize it is not a true in depth look at the company.

Fantastic Read!

Inside the Magic Kingdom was one the easiest and best management/customer relations books I have ever read. It is written in a way that allows the reader to obtain knowledge in a fun and easy manner. There are seven principles described in the book and each and everyone of them is important in their own way.

If I were a manager I would read this and then suggest/assign to everyone in my department. Also, this would be a great book for a professor to assign to their class.
